About Pocahontas 895
What is Pocahontas 895?
Pocahontas 895 is a four-lane, nine-mile toll road that opened in 2002. It is unique because it offers express toll lanes that allow drivers the ability to travel at highway speeds through the toll plaza.
Pocahontas 895 directly connects Interstate 95 at Chippenham Parkway (Route 150) to Interstate 295, creating the only southeastern bypass around the Richmond area.

What are the exits off Pocahontas 895?
Currently, the only exit - Laburnum Road - is found near the midpoint of Pocahontas 895. New entrance and exit ramps will be built as new residential and commercial properties are developed along the Pocahontas 895 corridor.
This includes the Airport Connector Road, which will lead drivers directly from Pocahontas 895 into and out of Richmond International Airport.

As you travel through E-ZPassTM tolls in these areas, your payment automatically will be deducted from your account.

What do the lights mean in the E-ZPassTM open toll lanes on Pocahontas 895?
- Yellow - Your account has reached a low balance and needs to be replenished.
- Blue - Indicates an unpaid toll or that your E-ZPassTM transponder may not be working properly. If you are in the cash lane, please stop and pay the full toll with cash.
If you already have an E-ZPassTM, your account has insufficient funds or there may be a problem with your transponder, and you need to contact the E-ZPassTM Customer Service Center online or by phone to resolve this (1-877-762-7824).

Is a toll violation an actual ticket from the local or state police?
No, the Virginia State Police do not issue these tickets. However, these unpaid tolls are required by law to be paid. Per Virginia law, if drivers travel the road without paying, there may be significant fines and, in certain cases, suspension of the vehicle registration through the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. This applies to both in-state and out-of-state drivers.

To drop off your transponder in person, go to the E-ZPass Richmond area service center at:

The Service Center has a drop box for your convenience after hours. If you choose to mail your transponder, please enclose a note requesting a replacement. VDOT recommends using Certified Mail, as you are responsible for any E-ZPassTM lost in the mail. If your transponder is lost, a $25 charge will apply.
